VUTRAX Technical Support

VUTRAX SOFTWARE ADVICE NOTICE 217 Issue 2 (25 Sep 2014)

VUTRAX 14.0a Development Update for Windows

Problem with DRAFT mouse wheel panning and Auto-panning (GDI mode)
Problem with local (Right button) menus when using Direct 2D graphics.
Update to SEE printing

DRAFT 40.01a - Local Menu (Right Button) menu selections have no effect when Active X / Direct 2D graphics display is selected.

Problem:
When you have the Direct 2D graphics mode selected, use of the right button will display the
context sensitive local menu, but when you click an item no action is taken.
Avoidance:
Select GDI graphics display if it is fast enough.
Fix:
DRAFT 40.02a fixes the problem

DRAFT 40.00a - Mouse wheel scroll & Auto-pan malfunction in GDI mode.

Problem:
When using the slower (initially selected) GDI drawing mode the first step of panning works correctly, but the Vutrax cursor then mostly disappears and further pans only repaint a slice.
Avoidance:
Use Scroll bar panning.
Once in a mess, Click the Refresh Screen Toolbar button twice.
Fix:
DRAFT 40.01a fixes the problem

SEE editor 11.14a - Prints proportional fonts on some recent printers.

Incompatibility:
Printing from SEE uses the printer default font for all except the heading. On at least some printers (e.g. Brother) this has started being proportionally spaced, destroying intended vertical alignments.
Avoidance:
If the text is too messed up Ctrl+A Ctrl+C to copy the text, start Windows Notepad, Ctrl+P to paste, and print from there.
Fix:
SEE 11.15a explicitly selects a suitable fixed spaced font.
You can vary the font size with the startup option
       -p<percentage>      (values 25 to 400 are accepted),
and -p                             (use printers default font, whatever it is)
The default is -p100.
Run time command Ctrl+J options permits all of the -p options, so you can adjust the text size from within the editor to suit a given print job, using print preview if your printer has it.
To set a permanent preference use the environment variable VTXSEE as described for Read-only and other options.
For smaller printed text try
       set VTXSEE=-p75
To have SEE run as before the update use
       set VTXSEE=-p

The development Update vtx14_0a_24sep2014.t01 include the Fixes for these 3 items.
To install this select Install from (File > Setup > Configuration).
Choose your configuration: Free or Configuration file.
For the Vutrax masters select the above .t01 file and allow the install to run.
If the installation unexpectedly fails you may get locked out of the Vutrax menu system.
If this occurs simply run the installer vutrax_set_up.exe from the original distribution media,
selecting the update file, and the system will restore the menus to as you last used them.
