VUTRAX SOFTWARE ADVICE NOTICE 219 (27 Feb 2019)

Message Boxes not accepting keystrokes in Windows 10 version 1809

Windows 10 update 1809 (Home, Pro, 32 and 64 bit) has introduced a detailed change to the Message Box API (used for simple messages with [OK], [OK] [Cancel] etc. variants) that effects the way Vutrax interacts with the user. Normal use of this API leaves the box accepting keyboard characters, so that you can typically type <Enter> for [OK], Esc for Cancel, 'Y' for Yes. etc.

But Vutrax applies a change to the call so that the dialogue is positioned consistently relative to the main window, and the new implementation within Windows no longer automatically provides keyboard focus when Vutrax does this.

The 64 bit version of Vutrax in preparation will fix the problem seamlessly for important modules, and in due course we expect re-issue some 32 bit programs with the fix. If you always move the mouse and click on the buttons you will not see any difference, but if the change is annoying or inefficient for you, you can trade off the positioning aspect of the box in favour of keeping keyboard access.
